Case History 1: Biomass Gasification Project: Greenhouse

Facility:Twenty Acre Commercial Greenhouse With Access To Waste

Highlights:Looking for alternatives to rising natural gas prices, the grower learned of the uses of available municipal solid waste as a biomass fuel. Because manual recycling is performed the paper wastes are easily obtained. Because the material will be received at moisture contents above 50% (dry), grinding will be performed followed by drying using flue gas heat. Screening will be included to remove any occasional non combustible.

Issue: Currently using two 370KW hot water boilers, 10 years old, static for 3 to 4 years.

Opportunity Biomass Fuel: Municipal solid waste (Paper & Cardboard)

Solution: The grower utilises a central plant for hot water production. Using one 335KW alternative energy boiler, delivering 4MW, the central plant will be modified. One of the two existing natural gas boilers will remain for surge and emergency backup. Useful Life 40 YRS.

Case History 2: Process Steam From Site Waste (Bio Mass)

Facility: Commercial Property

Highlights: The Developer approached us due to waste wood fuel availability as it would be practical to use biomass as a Natural Gas alternative. The heating design was completed but the only change being proposed was in the type of boiler. Using the design requirements specified temperature and flow for the hot water supply, a plant was quickly provided.

Issue: Delivering Hot Water Heating To A New Apartment Complex. Current design is 6 WT Boilers each feeding a node of eight apartments, each node requires average year round consumption of 234KW. Eight nodes equals 1,872KW. Useful Life ~ 20 YRS.

Opportunity Biomass Fuel: Property owner has access to forest wastes.
